Sen. Roy Blunt had an opportunity to meet Pope Francis on his historic visit to the United States last week.
“The Pope brought a good spirit with him,” Blunt said. “Congress needs to be reminded that what we do is more important than who we are.”
Blunt and House Speaker John Boehner were the two members of congress to officially accept a hand-done, seven-volume Bible on behalf of the Library of Congress.
“The goal here should not be what’s good for the members of Congress. The goal should be what’s good for the country,” Blunt said. “Whether you agreed with everything the Pope thought would be the proper way to run a government or not, I think he clearly expressed that very well — that our job here is to do the best thing for the country.”
