My best friend is getting ready to move, and it's a huge ordeal. Boxes, weeks of packing, a moving truck, our blood, sweat, and tears. Suddenly, we've realized just how much he accumulated over the years. So I told him to imagine being told he was moving- but only had one hour to pack and no boxes, no suitcases, just a jumbo size trash bag. He looked at me like I was crazy and said it would be "totally impossible!"
But that same, harsh reality faces more than 500,000 children in foster care.
On average, these kids will move through three homes, with nothing more than a
trash bag holding their few belongings. Some don't even have a toothbrush to
call their own.
, we can't even fathom that our own children live
without clothes or basic necessities to call their own. But you don't have to
travel to a developing country to find needy kids. At Together We Rise, we
found some just around the corner from our office, and was
Our Sweet Cases program gives children who first enter the system a care
package with a towel, blanket, toiletries, school supplies, and a stuffed
animal, all inside a duffle bag. These may be the only items that these kids
can truly call their own.
Last week, Together We Rise partnered with to give away
our first 20 Sweet Cases! Each Sweet Case went to a foster child who will
attend summer camp for the first time. And another first- they didn't have to
bring their belongings in a trash bag.
Our Sweet Case program is still growing and evolving, so hit up our and let us know:
What would you want in a Sweet Case?
The best idea may be featured in our next batch of Sweet Cases!
