The Phoenix Coyotes; The Little Franchise That Could

The Phoenix Coyotes have been at the basement in the NHL as far as attendance and payroll for the last 4 years, but they haven't skipped a beat. Over this time span they have racked up a whopping 156-123-42 record with three consecutive playoff appearances, one division title and a western conference final appearance. They are one of the most underrated franchises in the NHL and being an underdog game after game has never fazed them. They are a team that epitomizes work ethic, battling, and a balanced team game, never flashy, but always efficient. Sure they aren't the New York Rangers or the Los Angeles Kings, but they are a humble franchise in a small market that continues to exceed expectations. Struggling through a period of muddled ownership from 2009 till 2013 the team put off ice issues behind them and continued to succeed on the ice year after year. Consistency is their key and after a down year last year in a lockout shortened season they must regain this as they look to make it 4 playoff appearances in 5 years. Bolstered by new additions such as top line center Mike Ribeiro and a full training camp under their belts they are primed and ready in hope of duplicating their magical run to the Western Conference Finals two years ago. The team has begun its 2013-2014 campaign with a 4-2 record while currently being on a three game win streak. After a great start to their season with a statement win over their Rangers, they scuffled with back to back losses losing a combined 10-2. Recently though they are on a three game win streak with a plethora of momentum moving forward. With new ownership and a rejuvenated team the Coyotes are still the Little Franchise That Could, but watch out for this little franchise because they are bound for big things.
